There is a small hill to the right of the road along the western side of the Stadium of Ephesus. At the top of this hill, which has been artificially levelled, there is a round outcrop (4 feet * 66.6 feet) carved from living rock. This is either an ancient round temple or the foundation of a building.

 

The hill on the other side is the Acropolis of the Ionian Ephesus. The city extended from the northern slopes of this hill to the Stadium. Visitors who goes up there will have a panoramic view of the harbour of the old Ephesus city; now covered with government buildings, and of the slopes which were once thick with houses rising in tiers, as in a amphiteatre.

 

To the North-east , a few minutes walk from the hill of Acropolis, there are remains of an early temple which is probably a temple dedicate to the God Apollo.
